An avid photographer with an eye for Clydesdales, Rob Lakin has been capturing our magnificent heavy horses for over 30 years. Honoured with a Distinguished Service Award at the 2016 Annual General Meeting. Rob has dedicated countless hours to photographing Clydesdales at the Royal Melbourne Show, Foal Show, and Heavy Horse Festival, creating a comprehensive visual history for the Clydesdale Horse Society of Victoria. His stunning images showcase these gentle giants in all their glory, preserving special moments for the club and its members. With a lifelong passion for Clydesdales, Rob's photographs tell the story of these majestic animals and the people who love them.

The Carinya Clydesdale stud has shown and produced Royal Melbourne Show Champions. They are standing Warralinga Monty Reg 7880 at stud and welcome enquiries

The Duneske Clydesdale is bred for quality and temperament. The Duneske Clydesdales are successfully shown in hand, ridden classes and worked.

Euron Gulla Clydesdales are by top quality sires from Aarunga and Valmont sires. Also standing  a stallion at stud. Enquiries invited.

The Haylands Clydesdale Stud was established in 1953 by Hugh Barrie. His daughter, Barbara and grandaughter, Denia are continuing to breed and show Haylands Clydesdales. Their stallion, Haylands Souvenir carries quality bloodlines of the founding sire, Valletta Flash Prince, tracing back to the imported stallion, Flashdale, brought out from Scotland in the early 1920's. Enquiries and visitors are welcome.

The Taloumbi Lodge Clydesdale Stud has achieved Champion Royal Show success in hand and harness.

In 2016 Taloumbi Lodge Flash Grace, exhibited by their son, Tony Ronzio, was awarded Champion Mare at the Royal Melbourne Show. Robert and Thelma were keen harness exhibitors at the Royal Melbourne Show. In 2000 they won the Reserve Champion Harness Clydesdale award with Haylands Masterstroke.

Robert and Thelma are heavily involved with the Commonwealth Clydesdale Horse Society. Robert is President of both the CCHS Federal and Victorian Branch and Thelma has been recognised for her long standing services to the Victorian Branch with a Distinguished Service Award in 2014.

Robert and Thelma welcome enquiries and encourage new members.

Terri and Geoff are passionate about breeding, showing and driving their Clydesdales. Their colt foal Terra-lyn Remi won Champion Foal at the 2019 Dandenong Scottish Heritage Day and their young mare, Terra-Lyn Maddison was awarded Reserve Champion Clydesdale driven in long reins at the Royal Melbourne Show. Terri successfully competes in harness with Fernshade Zachery. Well handled young stock are available for sale and enquiries are welcome.

Clydesdale Horse Society of New Zealand History

On the 1st June 1911, an advertisement in the Otago Daily Times invited breeders, and others interested in Clydesdale horses, to attend a meeting to be held in the offices of the Otago A&P (Agricultural and Pastoral) Society in Dunedin, Otago. Here it was resolved “That it was desirable to form a Clydesdale Horse Society for New Zealand ... the question to be further considered at Winter Show time in August.”

Letters were sent to all the leading A&P societies in the country and a formal meeting held in Dunedin on 2 August of the same year. This was attended by breeders from all over New Zealand and as a result the Clydesdale Horse Society of the Dominion of New Zealand (Incorporated) was formed, rules were formulated, and the first officers, forming a Society Council, were elected.

The Society’s first Stud Book was published in 1914 with a total of 2,052 entries, a number of animals being entered retrospectively to make the pedigree record as full as possible. This volume also contained the Rules of the organization as an Incorporated Society and, even more importantly, a comprehensive history on the breeding of Clydesdale horses in New Zealand to that date. This was published in two parts – for the South and North Islands respectively.

The early years of New Zealand’s Clydesdale Society coincided with a peak population of horses – including Clydesdales – in this country. After the First World War there was steady decline in numbers with the advent of motorized transport and traction.

The Second World War marked another period of decline, this time fairly rapid, and the Clydesdale in New Zealand assumed the status of a rare breed.

The Society, however, has been maintained since its inception, and the Stud Book has been continued throughout the years. Since the 1990s there has been a revival of Clydesdale breeding in New Zealand. Today, the horses are a great attraction at most of the large A&P shows, and field events are held throughout the country.
